How it works
Filtration is a staged process. Which stages you need depends on what you are trying to change.
Sediment is removed first
A sediment cartridge catches the fine particles that would otherwise clog the finer stages behind it. It is the cheapest element and the one that needs changing most often.
Carbon deals with taste and odour
Activated carbon adsorbs chlorine and the compounds that come with it. This is the stage that makes the most obvious difference to how water tastes straight from the tap.
Further stages target specific problems
Scale, hardness or particular contaminants each call for a different approach. Choosing the right one depends on what your supply actually contains, which is why the water source matters.
Filters are replaced on schedule
Every cartridge has a finite life measured in litres or months. A filter left in past its life stops helping and can become the problem. The replacement interval and its cost are part of the quote.

Water Filtration questions
Is there anything wrong with Perth tap water?
No. Scheme water is treated to meet the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines and is safe to drink. Filtration is about the things the guidelines do not cover for you personally: how it tastes, and how much scale it leaves behind in your appliances.
Under-sink or whole-of-house?
If the issue is how your drinking water tastes, under-sink does the job for far less. If the issue is scale in the hot water system, the dishwasher and the shower screens, it needs to be treated where the water enters the property.
How often do the filters need changing?
It depends on the cartridge and how much water you use. Every system has a rated life in litres or months, and we quote the interval and the cost with the system.
Are there any rebates for water filtration?
No. There is no federal or WA state rebate for domestic water filtration. Unlike solar and heat-pump hot water, the full cost sits with the homeowner.
Will it strip the minerals out of my water?
That depends entirely on the method. Carbon filtration leaves dissolved minerals largely intact, while reverse osmosis removes most of them and is sometimes paired with a remineralising stage. Which one suits you is worth a conversation before you buy.
